Happy New Year's Eve, Blogettes!

I wish you all a very safe, happy and healthy evening and a FABU 2010. Here is a sneak peek at my little outfit for tonight:
Super cute, gold brocade short dress with the open back. I love it. I'm thinking black tights and either black strappy platform heels I recently picked up in Chicago or my snakeskin Hollywould heels with a blingy brooch on the toe. I'll post pics while I recover on the couch on New Year's Day. Until then....xxxooo

The WAIT is over...

For me, at least. I have been on the hunt for the perfect pair of flat boots. I didn't care if they were black or brown. I have looked on every website, in tons of stores - I have essentially scoured not only the city in which I reside, but other cities I have visited, too. Along the way I did find flat boots that I adored but as we all know adore does not always equal afford. Well....I found them tonight. At DSW of all places, and I had a $10 reward certificate, which made it even better.

They are brown with perfectly distressed leather and the perfect mix of chic riding boots for my style.

Without further ado, meet the newest boots to my collection:

All that is gold does not glitter...

Except during the holidays! I love dressing up (obvs) and that includes sequins. Miley Cyrus - yes, Miley Cyrus - teamed up with Max Azria to design an inexpensive line of clothing for WalMart. And I have to say....I like it. Well, some of it. Most of it is very tween, so naturally, being 28 - it is not my taste. I don't go to WalMart. Ever. But I made the trip for this:

The best part? It was $10. Seriously! I also purchased an awesome so-dark-it's-almost-black denim flounce skirt. Purple is my favorite color, hands down, and I just purchased these rockin' Brain Atwood booties that I think would look great with this top:

i'm also loving this top from bebe, $79, featured in this months Lucky:
If a sequin top is too much for you, you can opt for a beautiful necklace - like any of these from Anthropogie (my latest obsession for jewelry):

Christmas Spirit

I love Christmas. Absolutely love it. I go nuts with decorations, I adore wrapping presents, I just love everything about the holiday. Usually because it involves getting gifts and new clothes. Sounds really superficial, right? But I also love it because my entire family is together, my sister is in town, and we all have a blast when together. Same with my husband's family. I'm pretty lucky like that. So, just in time for the holidays, I have an especially heartwarming story to share.

My parents were in Atlanta for my Dad's company holiday party. They came home yesterday. When I called last night to check if they made it home okay, my mom told me about their flight home. She had boarded and a soldier got on to sit next to her. As he sat down, he turned to her and said, "Ma'am, please excuse me if I smell. I got notice four days ago while I was in the desert in Iraq that I got to come home for Christmas. I immediately got in the car, and I've been traveling ever since." My Mom, of course, didn't mind once hearing this. And she said he didn't so much smell like body odor, but more of dust and sand - you could tell he had literally left the middle of the desert.

They went on to talk, and she learned that his final destination was Louisville, just like her, and that he had a 13 year old son. He hadn't seen his son since last Christmas. He told my mom that the boy didn't know he was coming home, it was a surprise. He was led to believe he was going to the airport with his family to pick up another relative. They got off the plane and as he walked into the boy's line of sight, his eyes lit up and he shouted, "Dad!" and ran to him. My mom told me that there couldn't have been a more perfectly timed hug that had ever taken place. They hugged each other so tightly and for so long - my mom said probably about five full minutes. She cried as she told me this, and I cried as I listened. I cried as I repeated the story for my husband, and later my sister. And I'm fairly certain I'll cry if I tell it again.

It made me feel so warm inside. This is what the holidays are about. Family. And we should be all too lucky to have our families here, with us, presently. It's not the case for many. So take a moment this holiday and be thankful for what you have - and I don't mean that shiny new pair of Louboutins (although that is always nice). I mean your family - in whatever sense that may be. Happy holidays!

I never think that people die. They just go to department stores.

And there you have it. That's the genious of Andy Warhol. Welcome to my blog.

As an art history major in college, I certainly have my favorite artists. Andy Warhol ranks in my top three. I think he was awesome, not just because his art was revolutionary - but I think he was a genius. If he were alive today, he is the sort of quirky, march to the beat of your own drummer individual I would befriend in a heartbeat.

I moved in to my first home in August. Not the first home I've ever lived in - I lived with my husband in his house when we were dating...but we bought our first home together in August. And it's my dream house - literally. Merging two individuals styles can be interesting. I'm very artsy and my husband is....not. I found this at Z Gallerie, and am purchasing for one of the guest bathrooms upstairs:

Another reason that I love Andy Warhol. And it's just a little piece of me in this monstrosity of a house.
